Examples Of The Life Coaching Philosophy From : Movie, TV, Anime

Hitch (Will Smith)

Required watching for all Life Coaches. : )

A person who watches this movie can't help but think,
"I wish I had a person like Alex Hitchens in my life."

With Life Coaches becoming part of the mainstream of Health Care, everyone will.

Naruto Shippuden : Granny Chiyo and Sakura Release Naruto From A Genjutsu

Sometimes, when a person is caught up in illusions, in their own head, they need another, maybe several other people, to insert their perspective, their energy into the trapped person, to release them from an inner world of confusion they can't escape on their own.

Back To The Future

Marty McFly and his Dad George McFly.

It seems strange that a son would become his own Father's mentor, but courage really took root in Marty and thanks to the invention of the Flux Capacitor, it became possible for Marty to become the best friend and mentor for his Dad and change both of their futures for the better.

Crazy, Stupid Love

Even though Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling) is much younger than Cal Weaver (Steve Carrel) when it comes to dressing well and projecting confidence, Jacob has a lot to teach Cal.

The sequence where Jacob takes Cal shopping is straight out of the Humanist Life Coach playbook.

What can be said?
When a person looks good, their confidence is naturally raised significantly.

The most unique insight I can offer on the movie is this :
at one point in the movie, following Cal having had success with multiple women yet still feeling torn that he has not reconciled with his wife, Cal finds himself at the bar trying to find Jacob.
Cal notices another 40 something "uncool" fellow at the bar and likely thinks to himself, "man...and there sit I...before Jacob."
My insight is : wouldn't it be nice if Cal had turned around and tried to make this poor fellow's life better.
Wouldn't it be nice if there were a whole group of people dedicated to taking the "uncool" and "unpopular" and "unhappy" and turning their lives around?

Enter : Humanist Life Coaching

Soul Of Iron (Fairy Tail)

Makarov believes in Gajeel.
He won't let a young man fall into darkness.

Great Teacher Onizuka

Is the racy story of Onizuka, a former motorcycle gang member who becomes a teacher at a privately-operated school whose students have driven one teacher to a mysterious death, one to nervous breakdown, and one to joining a cult. Using his street smarts to deal with colleagues, students and troublemakers, Onizuka sets out to become the greatest teacher ever, using his own brand of philosophy and the ability to do nearly anything when under enough pressure. Onizukea always believes in his students, no matter how troublesome they might be.

Chocolat

Narrator : [Vianne felt the North Wind once more.] It spoke of towns yet to be visited. Friends in need. Battles yet to be fought. By someone else, next time. And so it was that the North Wind grew weary, and went on its way.

Vianne Rocher acts as a Life Coach for the entire sleepy town she comes to call home.
In particular, the downtrodden Josephine Muscat emerges like a flower released from the sticky tar of a swamp, thanks to Vianne showing her how much she was capable of doing, how worthwhile she really was and how strong she really was.

The essence of what a Life Coach does.

Ah! My Goddess! Ah! What Are Talent And Hard Work!

Season 1 Episode 17
  • Someone else's unshakeable faith in you, can become your strength, until you prove your own worth to yourself.
  • Beldandy just kept believing in Sora, kept on training with Sora, until Sora had the strength to believe in herself.
  • No, "Life's tough." or "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." Beldandy believes in Sora unconditionally.
  • And...Beldandy shows Sora, over and over, there is nothing she cannot do.
  • Beldandy is a true life coach.
Ratatouille
  • The scene where Remy compels Linguini ,with his body controlling hair pulling, to kiss Colette.
  • Linguini , otherwise , would likely not have done it because the poor guy lacks confidence in himself.
  • Remy's act, that of a friend who understands a friend's need, is exactly what Life Coaches do.
  • Life Coaches empower their clients.
  • Life Coaches don't do things for their clients so much as they help their clients tap into the potential they didn't know they had so they are empowered to do for themselves.
Meatball I

Note : Meatball I and IV are about mentors involving themselves in the life of underdogs. The other two Meatball movies are just silly.

The main plot involves Rudy Gerner a lonely kid who is sent to summer camp by his father. Noticing Rudy is unable to fit in, Tripper takes him under his wing and each morning they go jogging and bond as friends. Tripper helps Rudy gain confidence while Rudy encourages Tripper to start a romance with Roxanne, the female head counsellor.

North Star now trails by only 10 points with one event left, a 4-mile run cross country run for 20 points. Tripper steps forward and elects a surprised Rudy to compete against Horse, Mohawk's star runner. The many mornings Rudy spent jogging and training with Tripper pay off as he wins the race, giving North Star its first Olympiad victory.

Meatball IV

Ricky Wade is a reluctant hot-shot, water-skiing instructor-protagonist, but once he realizes that the "losers" in his care really can benefit from his mentorship; he embraces his role and inspires his campers with new confidence and a bunch of fun memories to treasure.

Fairy Godmother

Cinderella wouldn't have gotten anywhere without her.

Vic Fontaine : Deep Space Nine

Odo and the rest of the Ops crew are introduced to holographic Lounge Singer Vic Fontaine by Dr. Bashir.

Vic has been programmed to be a savvy, wise cracking, charismatic, and good natured working gentleman of the 60's.

Upon introduction he makes keen observations about all of the Ops crew members, but hesitates on making a comment about Odo and Major Kira.
Vic can see plain as day that Odo is crazy about Kira and she, unfortunately, just thinks of Odo as a friend.

Odo notices that Vic is a very aware individual and smart and talented and Odo seeks Vic's help, and Vic proceeds to change Odo's life for the better, by showing Odo all the potential to fun and loving that lies not too deeply buried inside.

Note : Vic doesn't sit Odo on a couch and psychoanalyze him. Vic doesn't propose making up a daily schedule and sticking to it with the hope that routine will bring peace to his life.
No.
Vic sees that Odo needs Kira to be happy, and Vic helps Odo get her.
That's what a "true friend" does.

Legend of Tarzan : Tarzan and the Protegee

The nephew of a Professor friend of Jane's father Archimedes comes to the jungle and meets Tarzan.
The boy is a shy, awkward boy who has been incessantly fussed over by his over protective Aunt and family his whole life, thus resulting in him being fearful, clumsy, and weak.
Naturally, Tarzan fixes that.

Tarzan shows the boy how unlimited his potential truly is.
The boy finds himself climbing trees, moss surfing, swinging from vines, diving off of water falls, and playing games with powerful wild animals,
all because he is believed in by Tarzan.

In fact, for Tarzan, there is never any doubt in his mind that the young boy has unlimited potential,
that he can easily keep up with Tarzan,
that Tarzan will enjoy his company with no sacrificing of his own personal fun
(sure, the boy might be awkward at first, but Tarzan knows that he will catch on).

When the boy leaves, he is a new person, confident and skilled, all because Tarzan opened a door to potential he probably would have never known he had.

Note : Tarzan didn't just counsel the boy. He didn't prescribe him mood altering drugs. He didn't put him in "special classes", Tarzan made friends and shared his personal sense of wonder, thus making the boy truly exceptional in the process.

Brawl In The Family (Simpsons)

Gabriel (a Social Worker) lives with The Simpsons family to find out how he can help them be functional.

The episode does not give sufficient time to the development of how much a Social Worker could benefit The Simpsons family, but Gabriel's intriguing idea about rescuing a Picnic Basket from a tree as a family exercise, shows a great deal of potential in how much benefit a family can derive from a "Proactive" approach to helping people.
